Abolish The Fed Protest Ron Paul Guest Speaker
By Micah Jackson
On November 22nd tens of thousands of activists in over thirty-nine US cities made a stand for sound money and the abolition of the Federal Reserve. In Houston, more than 500 activists assembled in the park across from the Federal Reserve branch office at 1801 Allen Parkway. The rally's coordinators chose the date for two reasons. First, because it marked the anniversary of the planning session at Jekyll Island that spawned the Federal Reserve. Secondly, it was on this date that U.S. president John F. Kennedy; the last president to challenge the Federal Reserve, was assassinated. President Kennedy wanted to return the power to issue commodity backed currency to the Treasure Department and issued executive order 11110 to that end.
Waving signs which displayed "End the Fed", "U.S. Constitution Article 1, Section 8", "Bailout is Bullshit", and "Not Federal No Reserve" attendees crossed many political demographics. In attendance were supporters of Representative Dennis Kucinich, members of the Campaign for Liberty, were on hand, as were members of the John Birch Society, the Republican Liberty Caucus, the Mises Institute and organized military veterans.
Speakers included the Harris County Libertarian Chair, representatives from the Mises Institute, the John Birch Society, and veteran's organizations. The keynote speaker was 2008 Candidate for the Republican nomination for president, Texas congressional representative Ron Paul.
Over 500 people attended the event, which ran from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and many more signed petitions in support of H.R. 2755. H.R. 2755 calls for the abolition of the Federal Reserve, and an end to the private banking cartels dominance over the American economy. The organizers plan more rally's to educate Americans about sound money and the Federal Reserve - an organization whose mismanagement and elastic money policies they argue have contributed to increased national debt, loss of freedom, and may serve to broaden the recession and perhaps even cause a depression.
